Since joining MPI in 1993, Mr. Valentine has conducted a wide variety of client engagements, primarily consisting of private or quasi-public company security analyses and the valuation of closely held business interests in a wide variety of industries and for a variety of purposes. Those purposes include gift and estate tax filings, estate planning, corporate and shareholder planning, Employee Stock Ownership Plans, private equity transactions, sale merger situations and recapitalizations. He has prepared documented valuation analyses in support of those valuations for presentation to the management, directors, stockholders and trustees of client companies, as well as their professional advisors. Mr. Valentine has important concentrations of work experience in the valuation of the following: minority interests in the capital stock of operating businesses; controlling interests in asset holding companies with large built-in capital gains tax liabilities; non-controlling (minority) interests in asset holding companies and partnerships; and developing support for fractional interest discounts appropriate for undivided fractional ownership interests in real estate.
